Long overdue here is the second video for Minequest. For more info on what's new check out read more.
First thing first, you can easily see the lava works the save as the water in the way that it moves from watching the water in the first video. The player can also swim in lava since its a liquid type.
Next thing you may notice in the video is that the lava gives off light, while it used to light up objects around it, it now only lights up itself. I think there is comparison pictures in a earlier blog post if not there is on the games Facebook page.
Another new thing that you can see in the video to do with the lava is that when it flows over torches it burns them and they disappear thus putting out the light that the create. This is also through for chest's but they were hard to find during this run of making the video. (I had mined around before I started recording setting everything up and trying to find a chest with a health potion in it.)
Be careful where you let lava flow because of this, it will destroy objects.
The next thing this video brings is health, the player can now be hurt, lava being the only thing currently that does damage. You can see in the video the the health will reduce over time while I'm in lava. After I finish letting the lava flow down you can see my health goes back up and the 1 potion I had is gone because I used it on myself bringing up my health.
One of the last new things in this video is the creation of the molten block. This block caused me a lot of pain to program into the game and at one point wasn't going to happen because the whole water + lava thing was becoming a pain. In the end however it made it and as you can see in the video when the two come together a molten block is formed. This is the only way for this block to be made in the game.
The block is also really hard to mine and there is a special reason for this that you will find out later in the games development.
The molten block also gives off light but much less. Oh yea also torches are different from before, they now fade as the light goes out rather then being one strength. Its a subtle difference but makes a big change in looks.
Right, well this was a long post but I'm pretty sure everything is detailed in it. To finish the post I'm going to leave a screen shot of something a friend asked was it possible in the game, that being different colour torches. It is now thanks to when I changed and cleaned the code which is also what made it possible to change the torches in general. Find a red torch as proof of concept below.
